Masters Level Therapist

About

I am super excited to begin my counseling career here at New Outlook CC. I am a caring, dedicated, and relaxed therapist with about one year of experience in the mental health field under my belt. I have aspirations to continue my education in the counseling field, and someday become a Registered Play Therapist and learn more therapy skills. A lot of my motivation for going into this field, comes from my personal experiences, as well as my past occupational experiences. In my life, I have experienced anxiety, depression, grief, and OCD. I believe that having first hand experiences living with these struggles helps inform my practice with clients. I think that this makes me more passionate about helping others who have gone through similar things, and makes me more empathic towards my clients. Much of the disorders and trauma that I have experienced throughout my life showed up mostly in childhood and adolescence. I felt like there was no way to get better when I was at that age, and I want to be the person to help kids like me. This is why I mainly work with the child and adolescent population, and specialize in disorders such as anxiety, depression, ADHD, OCD, etc. While this is the population I specialize in, that does not mean that I don’t see adults! Another focus of mine is the LGBTQIA+ community, because I know how hard navigating your identity can be, and I want to offer my help in guiding people through this. Another reason why I really like working with children and adolescents is because of my past work as a volleyball coach for young girls. I have been an athlete my entire life, and this is also a population that I would love to work with more! I did this for many years, and it really showed me just how much everyone needs guidance during this time, and possibly a little extra help. When I was in my young adulthood, one of my best friends lost their own battle with their mental health and passed away. This was one of the hardest things that I had to go through, and that’s made me also want to help other people get through that pain. During times of grief we can feel like there is no way out, but I want to show people that things can get good again and that they will survive this loss. One thing that I am also passionate about in my work with clients, is helping people through injuries or chronic pain. I have unfortunately had bad luck when it comes to injuries and health, and I know just how difficult and overwhelming that can be. I aspire to help others in this situation, and provide them with skills to assist them in navigating their pain and stress. I use many different therapies with my clients including cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectic behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, person-centered therapy, and more. I really think the therapies that I use really depend on each specific client and their particular needs.
